Torpedo beat Spartak 2-0 in Moscow derby as fans clash

MOSCOW, May 26 (Reuters)(DS) - Torpedo scored twice late in the first
half to beat defendingchampions Spartak 2-0 on Saturday in a Moscow derby
marred by clashes between rival fans. Russian television reported that
a 20-year-old fan had been taken to hospital with a knife wound and police
made 14 arrests after the game.

In Moscow, Torpedo extended their winning streak to four games in wich
they have outscored the opposition 16-2. Dmitry Vyazmikin, who has scored
half his team's goals in that span, blasted a left-foot shot from 15 metres
into the top corner in the 35th minute for his ninth goal of the season.
Vladimir Leonchenko doubled the lead by beating Spartak goalkeeper Maxim
Levitsky with a 20-metre free-kick into the same corner just four minutes
later.

Spartak mounted a comeback after the interval but lacked the finishing
touch.

"All in all we were a better side and deserved to win," Torpedo coach
Vitaly Shevchenko said.

Spartak coach Vyacheslav Grozny said: "We played worse than we could
have imagined. It was one of our worst games."

The win lifted Torpedo to third in the table with 21 points from 11
matches, just above Spartak whom they lead on goal difference but two points
behind Krylya Sovietov Samara and Sokol Saratov.
